Ludlow castle wedding
Shropshire only has a handful of Castle wedding venues, and Ludlow Castle is one of my favourites. I might be a little bit biased, because I only live just around the corner! I love working as a Ludlow Castle wedding photographer, I get the chance to capture emotional moments with a magical historical background. I specialise in documentary wedding photography and I’ve been photographing weddings at Ludlow Castle for many years. It almost feels like home, and I know the venue like the back of my hand!
About Ludlow Castle
Ludlow Castle was originally a Norman Fortress, over the years it has been extended and in 1461 it became a Royal castle, for a period of 350 years. The castle has now been privately owned by the Earls of Powis since 1811, and it’s an important landmark in the Shropshire countryside.
Weddings at Ludlow Castle
When you get married at Ludlow Castle, you have a choice between different areas to hold your ceremony. Outdoor weddings take place in The Round Chapel, surrounded by nearly 1000 years of history. Accessed by a wooden bridge across the dry moat are the ruins of St Mary Magdalene Chapel – it’s a pretty magical place for Ludlow Castle wedding photography!
Alternatively, for indoor ceremonies, the Beacon Rooms have high ceilings and full-length windows overlooking the grounds, which bathe the room in beautiful light. There’s a real sense of grandeur to be enjoyed with up to 100 guests. For larger weddings, a marquee in the garden can extend capacity up to 350 guests. Or, if you are looking for something more intimate, the Library in the historic Castle House is perfect for you to get married in front of just eight of your closest friends and family.
Ludlow Castle wedding photographer
Castles are always an interesting background for wedding photos, and Ludlow Castle is no exception. The historic stone arched doorways and beautifully aged walls are features I love to include in photographs of couples, both after their wedding ceremony and as part of pre-wedding shoots. There’s something really fairy-tale about the Round Chapel, sitting in the middle of the Castle behind a wooden door that is centuries old.
Real Ludlow Castle weddings
I’ve been a Ludlow Castle wedding photographer more times than I can remember over the years, and each wedding had been unique and special.
Holly and Kris’ summer wedding ceremony at Ludlow Castle was followed by an awesome party (with shorts and Hawaiian shirts!) at the nearby Fishmore Hall Hotel.
Gina and Kris had a September wedding in the Round Chapel at Ludlow Castle, and then a gorgeous marquee wedding with décor handmade by Gina’s friends and family.
Emma and Will had a garden party reception after getting married at Ludlow Castle – with beautiful floral décor in the Round Chapel.
